Celebrate Juneteenth!

Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the ending of slavery. This was when Galveston, Texas received the news of the end of the war and President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation (January 1863) by Major General Gordon Granger two years later in 1865.
Celebrations surround the many accomplishments and contributions of African American culture on our society. While acknowledging the past, this holiday demonstrates the strength, beauty, and resilience of African American people and has been celebrated for many years before becoming a federal holiday.
On Thursday June 17, 2021 President Joe Biden signed into law the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act passed by Congress, making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
