Important GI Bill® Update: Congress has passed new law due to COVID-19
May 21, 2020
Attention Veteran Students: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has collaborated with Congress to preserve Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits for those impacted by COVID-19 during this pandemic. The Senate and House have passed S.3503 and the bill has been approved and signed by President Trump. This bill will grant VA the authority to continue GI Bill® payments uninterrupted in events of national emergencies, allowing them to pay education benefits to impacted students regardless if their program has been shifted from on-ground learning to online learning. Veteran students will also continue to receive the same monthly housing allowance until 12/21/20, or until school resumes to normal, on-ground operations.
There is no action required from a GI Bill® Student. Veteran Affairs has provided a series of training sessions to all VA approved institutions and educating School Certifying Officials about the new law to streamline the process. VA will continue to work closely with Institution Officials to ensure all enrollment certifications are accurately processed in a timely manner. For new updates, changes, and FAQs, please visit the GI Bill® website and social media for more details.
