Mobile Digital Forensics Immersion Experience for Students and Educators interested in Criminal Justice Cyber Security
Bay State College, Taunton Campus, is pleased to announce a newly created mobile digital forensics lab and partnership with one of the leading international companies in this field, MSAB of Sweden. The lab is designed to provide certification training to college students in this quickly expanding field of criminal justice.
Of late, the criminal justice field has seen a rapid expansion of crimes that are perpetrated by way of mobile digital devices such as smartphones and drones and applications such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Youtube, and Snapchat. To this end, law enforcement has developed forensic tools to meet the criminals and thwart this activity. Currently 95% of teens have a Smartphone and spend a substantial portion of their time communicating by way of these apps. This activity makes them vulnerable to both victimization by cyber criminals and inadvertently engaging in problematic activity such as cyber bullying, which can impact their future aspirations.
The Mobile Digital Forensics Immersion Experience is designed to provide students hands on demonstrations by trained law encouragement officers, which will give them insight as to how cyber-criminals are being pursued in the virtual world and how mobile devices and applications can be exploited by way of vulnerabilities.
Specifically, students will:
- See how a drone operates and how flight data can be forensically evaluated
- See how law enforcement bypasses codes to access phones
- See how deleted phone messages, videos, pictures, can be retrieved
- See how phone data stored in the cloud can be accessed by law enforcement
- See how common communication apps can be forensically evaluated for content and location data
This presentation will be offered to surrounding schools and to members of the community through the upcoming year. This Mobile Digital Forensics class is part of our Criminal Justice Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Concentration.
