Alicia Silva

Background

Professor Silva began her career working in acute care at University of Michigan and Boston Medical Centers. She worked in both surgical and medical intensive care units, transplant units, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, orthopedics, and transitional care/skilled nursing. For the past 15 years, she has focused on treating patients with orthopedic injuries in outpatient private practice. She coordinated balance screenings at local senior centers, health and fitness assessments for first responders, and enjoys being involved community health promotion events. Professor Silva authored a book and numerous articles about women's health in professional journals, online health resources, and community newspapers. She developed and was instrumental in the roll out of a falls prevention screening and exercise program for all of Benchmark Senior Living's assisted living communities.

Involvement at Bay State College

Professor Silva is involved with teaching at the Boston and Taunton campuses. She has led seminar students in their service learning projects to create a video learning library for first year PTA students. Courses taught include:

  • Kinesiology

Interests

As a 200-hour registered yoga teacher, Alicia enjoys practicing yoga as well as incorporating yoga into patient's treatment plans. She also enjoys running, hiking, gardening, and time at the beach with her family.
