Bay State College to Observe Juneteenth

Bay State College campuses will be closed on Friday, June 18, as the community observes the holiday. Saturday, June 19, marks the 156th anniversary of Juneteenth, which celebrates the anniversary in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Texas and declared slaves were free under the Emancipation Proclamation.
Massachusetts designed the historic day as a state holiday and the United States has since passed a bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. Juneteenth National Independence Day will be the twelfth public holiday and the first federal holiday created since 1983, when Martin Luther King Jr. Day was signed into law.
"Juneteenth marks both a long, hard night of slavery and a promise of a brighter morning to come. This is a day of profound wait and profound power. A day which you'll remember the moral stain, the terrible toll that slavery took on the country and continues to take," President Joe Biden.
Bay State College recognizes the significance of Juneteenth and want to ensure freedom and equality to all.
