Bay State College Board of Trustee Publishes 12th Book
January 18, 2012
Boston, MA- January 18, 2012- William M. Fowler, Jr., member of Bay State College’s Board of Trustees recently published his 12th book, American Crisis, George Washington and the Dangerous Two Years after Yorktown. The text describes the critical, yet rarely talked about 2 years after the Battle of Yorktown.
Fowler, the former Director of the Massachusetts Historical Society and Professor of History at Northeastern University describes his recent publication as his favorite work to date. And that in itself, says a lot. Fowler has been a published author since 1973 and has since published 12 books with a strong theme- a passion for American History.
Four years in the making, American Crisis was clearly a labor of love. Fowler spent a great deal of time searching through old archives and documents to make sure the book was historically accurate.
“It’s not just about sitting down and writing a book”, Fowler says. “It’s about visiting the site where it happened, and getting your hands on original sources.”
American Crisis was officially published this past fall and Fowler is proud of the final result. Fowler hopes the book will be read both in the classroom and for leisure among history lovers.
“To teach and to learn history requires the passion of discovery,” Fowler says. “My hope is to get students excited about the material and that they get as much joy out of reading it as I received writing it.”
Praise for American Crisis
“Bill Fowler is the author of many important works of American history, but with American Crisis he has written the book of his long and distinguished career. Chronicling one of the least known portions of the American Revolution—the two years between Yorktown and the actual end of the war—he has created a page-turner full of intrigue, drama, and countless unexpected twists. You will never think of George Washington in quite the same way after reading American Crisis.”
—Nathaniel Philbrick, author of In the Heart of the Sea and Mayflower
“'Huzzah!’ for William Fowler. His superb American Crisis brings to life, with great clarity and understanding, one of the least-known, most important chapters in the long struggle for independence, and leaves no doubt of how much, once again, was owed to George Washington for how things turned out.”
—David McCullough, author of John Adams, 1776, and The Greater Journey
