Interests
Professor Pollard's interests lie mostly within the business applications of mathematics. She enjoys teaching courses that focus on real-world applications and techniques that can be used in everyday life. In the Math and Personal Finance class, for example, her students study some of the mathematics behind the retail industry, payroll and taxes, and banking and loans among other topics, focusing on the ways math can affect their individual lives. In Mathematics for Management, students focus on the company-side, rather than the individual, studying some of the best practices for minimizing costs and maximizing profits. Professor Maniscalco also enjoys teaching basic concepts that are used in everyday life – fractions, decimals, and percents – and relating them to real-world topics.
Professor Pollard is also an advisor to the Criminal Justice department.
